Lean Manufacturing

Altek Electronics has been providing contract-manufacturing services in the Northeast since 1972. As an established manufacturer of printed circuit board assemblies, Altek utilizes a combination of lean manufacturing and Six Sigma techniques. Lean manufacturing reduces waste by using line analysis to identify the steps in the manufacturing process that create value so we can reduce all non-value steps in the process.
A key element of Altek Electronics’ lean high mix program is 6S’. Utilizing 6S’ also helps us reduce waste and maintain a structured workplace.
- Safety – work to maintain an injury free work environment.
- Sort –eliminate materials that do not belong in the work area.
- Straighten – “A place for everything and everything in its place”.
- Shine – make cleaning a part of everyone’s daily work.
- Standardize – make all the common work areas the same.
- Sustain – Make 5S’S a way of life.

Altek Electronics’ use of lean manufacturing concepts such as smaller transfer batch sizes drastically reduces opportunities for defects. This is a critical part of achieving on-time delivery of prototype PCBA's and regular production orders. Visual controls such as Takt board scheduling communicate daily customer requirements to all of our employees. Our employee involvement at all levels ensures the highest quality from the initial prototyping of circuit boards to the time product leaves our Connecticut facility. The use of Six Sigma tools in our manufacturing processes helps us maintain the highest quality and is an essential part of our contract-manufacturing environment.
